Welcome to the Yarn Makers Guild India
A national community for handspinners and a global network of fibre and craft enthusiasts
The Yarn Makers Guild India is envisioned as a community of yarn makers, textile artists, designers, and fibre enthusiasts working across traditional and contemporary practices. It brings together people engaged in handspinning, weaving, and experimental textile processes, as well as anyone interested in learning, exploring and supporting these practices.
Founded by Avani Varia on October 2, 2020, as part of the Chalo Charkho Ramiye initiative, the Guild bridges India’s rich handspinning traditions with evolving global textile practices. It serves as a platform for learning, exchange, collaboration, and dialogue around yarn and fibre-based craft.
Our aim is to build a connected community of India’s handspun yarn makers and strengthen their network. We also foster exchange with a wider global community of fibre and craft enthusiasts. Through this, we seek to support heritage handspinning practices and evolving approaches to handmade yarn-making, encouraging meaningful learning, collaboration, and dialogue between makers in India and around the world.
